Swan Point Cemetery is a cemetery located in Providence, Rhode Island. It is the burial place of Howard Phillips Lovecraft, as well as that of his parents, Winfield Scott and Sarah Susan Phillips Lovecraft, and his grandfather Whipple Van Buren Phillips. Lovecraft's gravestone there reads "I Am Providence".
Swan Point was started in 1846 as a 60-acre tract of land; it has now grown to 200 acres, and is still accepting internments.
It is the resting place of numerous prominent Rhode Islanders, including 23 governors. [1] The second most famous horror writer buried there is C. M. Eddy, Jr., a friend of Lovecraft's who was also a frequent contributor to Weird Tales.
Lovecraft's short story "The Tomb" was inspired by a visit he made to Swan Point to see the grave of a distant relative.
