New to the wiki!

I had a question related to HPL's copyright status. I watched the HP Lovecraft Historical Society's productions 'Call of Cthulhu' (2005) and 'The Whisperer in Darkness' (2011). I watched the credits to see if they included any information on whether they licensed the stories from someone else - Arkham House, Chaosium, whoever.

But I saw nothing indicating that - did they assume the stories are in public domain?

Welcome aboard! I don't know much personally on the subject, but I found this subsection in the Wikipedia article on Lovecraft: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H._P._Lovecraft#Copyright

It sounds like the issue is fairly complicated; some of his works are/have been in the public domain, others have been claimed by related authors, etc. But this should be helpful in answering your questions : )
