"Tekeli-li, They Cry" is a Lovecraftian short story by Canadian author A. C. Wise. It was first published in the Broken Eye Books anthology Tomorrow's Cthulhu in January 2016.
Synopsis[]
On a future Earth where reality is broken and time has little meaning, a grieving mother takes a job at a near-abandoned Antarctic research station in the belief that somehow, in that place, she may be reunited with her daughter. As her colleagues succumb to madness and the voices in her head intensify, she does indeed meet her daughter, as something vast and terrible begins to stir beneath the ice.
Behind the Mythos[]
Despite containing no direct references to either Lovecraft's work or the greater Cthulhu Mythos, the title of "Tekeli-li, They Cry", which is a reference to the vocalisation made by the Shoggoth in At the Mountains of Madness, is a clear statement of the author's intent for the story to be a part of the Mythos. Additionally, the theme of humans driven to insanity by forces utterly beyond their ability to understand is a core tenet of Lovecraftian horror.
