"Testimony XVI" is a short story by American author Lynda E. Rucker, which is loosely tied to the Cthulhu Mythos. It was published in the thematic anthology Tomorrow's Cthulhu by Broken Eye Books in January 2016.[1]
Synopsis[]
Presented as a found manuscript, "Testimony XVI" gives a view-from-the-ground perspective on the fall of humankind. Two young women take to the road in search of one of their boyfriends as colossal monsters emerge from beneath the ocean, heralding a rash of earthquakes and nightmarish dreams.
The manuscript is stated to have been found in the "Pacific Northwest Exclusion Zone," however, implying that the end of the world might not have been as complete as the author feared.
Mythos Connections[]
The beginning of the story features the legend "Classified by: Hastur Project Team," although what this organisation's remit might be is not explored.
