One of the small-box supplements, The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh was a cards-only expansion. Included were the soon-to-become-standard set of 76 Investigator cards featuring additional Items, Spells and Allies for players to select from, along with 90 Ancient One cards to diversify the ways in which the core game could be played.
In addition, The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh introduced rules to simulate the arrival of a travelling museum exhibit - complete with cursed yet useful artefacts - to Arkham.
The new mechanic provided with this set (nearly every subsequent expansion would feature the addition of optional game mechanics in some form or other) was that of being excluded from certain locations. This, like most of the subsequent optional mechanics, increased the difficulty of winning a game of Arkham Horror, an already tough game to beat.
Revised Edition Edit
In 2011, Fantasy Flight released a Revised Edition of The Curse of the Dark Pharaoh in order to bring its contents into line with later packs, as more recent expansions had introduced game concepts which were incompatible with the original. It also came with a sheet allowing the Dark Pharaoh himself to be played against as a Herald.
