The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets is a Canadian rock band dedicated to promoting the literature of H. P. Lovecraft and the Mythos, especially the Necronomicon.
The band was formed in January 1992 by lead singer and main songwriter Toren Atkinson and lead guitarist Warren Banks, who met at Fraser Valley College in Abbotsford, British Columbia. They were originally joined by bass player Quentin Rogers, though he was replaced by Devon Presseau before their first show. The band's current lineup includes Atkinson, Banks, guitarist/bassist Mario Nieva, drummer Jordan Pratt, and bassist/backup vocalist Merrick Atkinson. Members live in British Columbia's Vancouver, Abbotsford, and Chilliwack.
Their music blends melodious punk and rock. They describe their song titles and lyrics as good-natured but macabre. The band's name comes from the Lovecraft story "The Tomb," which includes the line, "I will tell only of the lone tomb in the darkest of the hillside thickets."
