Lovecraft's works directly. The Hills Rise Wild!, which boasted the tagline A frenzied fury of hillbilly horror!, was a tabletop combat game loosely based on the greater Cthulhu Mythos.

Overview[]

The premise of The Hills Rise Wild! is that Old Wizard Whateley has died and left his occult possessions to be looted. As a result, four Clans have gathered in the small town of Dunwich to battle it out for Whateley's copy of the Necronomicon.

This transfers onto the tabletop as a modular game board representing Dunwich, and six card tents to represent the members of each Clan. The object of the game was for the player to locate the Necronomicon and bring it back to their home building. A tape measure was provided for measuring movement and range, and a 20-sided dice to determine combat and magic.

Behind the Mythos[]

The Hills Rise Wild! was created by Jesper Myrfors and John Tynes with artwork by Dennis Detwiller, and was published in 2000 by Pagan Publishing, Tynes' own label. It is currently out of print.
