"The Insects from Shaggai is a short story by Ramsey Campbell. It is the first appearance of its eponymous Shan insects. The story made its debut in Campbell's first collection, The Inhabitant of the Lake and Less Welcome Tenants (1964).
Synopsis[]
The story tells the tale of Ronald Shea, a fantasy writer who encounters the Shan in the woods near Goatswood. Stumbling across a bizarre and out-of-place structure, he enters and gains a glimpse of the insectoid species' depraved culture, as well as the sleeping god which they worship.
