This subject is written on a topic in the real world and reflects factual information. This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. The Lightless Beacon: When the Lights Went Out is a beginner-level adventure module for Chaosium’s Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game. It is dedicated to the memory of Chaosium founder Greg Stafford, who died in 2018.

Overview[]

Intended for groups of up to five players, The Lightless Beacon is specifically designed to build confidence in new players with a short adventure, and includes four pregenerated characters for quick-start play. The storyline involves a group of investigators who are shipwrecked and washed ashore on Beacon Island, a rocky outcrop in the Atlantic Ocean which is home to an ominously dark lighthouse. Unfortunately for the group, the island has been infested with Deep Ones, and they now face a frantic battle for survival.

Written by Leigh Carr with Lynne Hardy, The Lightless Beacon was first released by Chaosium in 2019 for the 7th edition of Call of Cthulhu. It is available as a free digital PDF download from their website.

Trivia[]

  • Although The Lightless Beacon is dedicated to the memory of Greg Stafford, the date on the front cover of October 10, 2019 is not the date of Stafford's death: he actually passed away on October 10, 2018 [1].
