"The Shade of Pierre Girault" is a short Cthulhu Mythos story by Canadian author Troy Young. It forms the second episode in Book 2 of his Nyarlathotep Cycle.
Synopsis[]
Director of the Department of Extraordinary Phenomena Harjit Singh recruits a new agent, prisoner Charlene Hines, explaining to her the existence of dark forces in the world, before partnering her with the now-seasoned investigator Malcolm Mayweather.
The pair are dispatched on assignment to investigate the mysterious case of a man who awakened from a 17 year long coma claiming he had been psychically abducted. Their investigation leads them to uncover a possessed journal which releases the spirit of a long-dead warlock, and only the destruction of the book is enough to destroy the evil entity.
