The Shadow Over Innsmouth is novella by Howard Phillips Lovecraft, written between Novenmber and December of 1931, but not published until April of 1936. It was the only one of Lovecraft's works published during his lifetime that did not appear in a periodical.[1]

The story's plot revolves around a seaside town in Massachusetts known as Innsmouth, which is inhabited by a race of being known as the Deep Ones.

Plot Summary

The novella is divided into five chapters. The story begins with the narrator, Robert Olmstead, telling the reader about a secret investigation that had recently (from his perspective) been conducted by the United States federal government in Innsmouth. Olmstead then proceeds to tell the story of the events leading up to the investigation.[2]
