Lovecraft's works directly. The Statement of Andrew Doran is a Cthulhu Mythos novel by American author and editor Matthew Davenport, the first in his Andrew Doran series. It was first published independently through the CreateSpace platform in February 2013; both paperback and digital editions were released.

Synopsis[]

The protagonist, Dr. Andrew Doran formerly of Miskatonic University, is called upon by the Dean of that esteemed institute to recover the Necronomicon, which has been stolen by Nazis to be used in their plans for world domination.

Plot[]

Chapter 1: Miskatonic University[]

Dr. Andrew Doran is summoned to Miskatonic University by his nemesis Dean Brandon Smythe and informed of the loss of the Necronomicon, which has been stolen by Nazi infiltrators. He equips himself with a magical sword and handgun from the University's armoury and prepares to set off on his mission.

Chapter 2: The Shadow Over Barcelona[]

Taking passage to Barcelona aboard a freighter, Doran encounters Deep Ones on a mission to establish a new colony off the coast of Spain. He strikes a deal with the creatures: he will ensure the coral vital to the new colony arrives intact in exchange for the ship and the lives of its crew.

Chapter 3: The Whisperers in Andorra[]

After contacting the French Resistance in Andorra, Doran and his new allies are captured by the local Nazis, who are in league with the alien Mi-Go. Through judicial use magic and firearms, he and Olivia, the sole surviving member of the resistance, succeed in killing the Mi-Go liaison and begin the long journey to Lyon.

Chapter 4: The Thing in Lyon[]

Hunted once again by the Nazis, Doran and Olivia make contact with Leo, another French Resistance agent, and flee their pursuers through the extensive tunnels beneath Lyon. After a brief encounter with an undying sorcerer, during which Doran has his mind and body swapped but uses his knowledge of magic to revert the spell, the group return to the surface and continue on their way.

Chapter 5: Geneva-Reanimated[]

On the way to Geneva with the aim of meeting up with an old friend of Doran's, the group are attacked by a small horde of reanimated corpses seemingly in service to the Nazi party. After a lengthy road battle, they see off the dead fiends and arrive safely in Switzerland, meeting up with Father Blake, who directs them to the city of Bern, and a scientist who may be able to assist them on the next leg of their journey.

Chapter 6: Cool Air in Berne[]

When Doran contacts Karl Freeman in Berne, the man reveals that he is in fact a secret Cthulhu cultist who has prolonged his life using arcane sciences. He also informs him that Olivia is not what she seems, and that Doran is destined to use the Necronomicon to awaken Great Cthulhu. Doran in turn kills Freeman for his troubles, before preparing the small group of freedom fighters for their next move.

Chapter 7: The Munich Horror[]

Upon their arrival in Munich, Doran and friends encounter two minions of the Traum Kult: a lanky sorcerer, and his monstrous, invisible brother. Defeating the two through the use of magic and Doran's enchanted weapons, he and Leo are captured by the Nazis, although Olivia’s fate remains unknown.

Chapter 8: The Doom That Came to Berlin[]

Doran and Leo overpower their captors en route to Berlin, and attack the Traum Kult headquarters upon their arrival. Olivia is revealed to be a manifestation of Doran's madness, and thus able to assist the two in their climactic battle against all manner of foes, including Cthulhu cultists, followers of Yig, reanimated corpses, Deep Ones, Shoggoths, the psychic elite of the Traum Kult, and the entire situation's grand engineer, Dean Brandon Smythe. During the course of the conflict, Doran destroys the Necronomicon.

In the aftermath, the three travel to Miskatonic University, where Doran is appointed the new Dean, and the group prepare for their next encounter with the forces of the Cthulhu Mythos.

Since its first publication, The Statement of Andrew Doran was also published in paperback and digital format by Macabre Ink/Crossroad Press in August 2017.
