This subject is written on a topic in the real world and reflects factual information. This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. The Tomb Herd is a Mythos short story written by Ramsay Campbell when he was 15, albeit published in 1986. It appeared in Crypt of Cthulhu #43.

A visitor to Kingsport finds it impossible to leave, as physical space is bent around, meaning the roads out of town lead back in. The town itself is an overwhelmed ruin, haunted by the Tomb Herd and lich-like horrors in the church graveyard.

Behind the Mythos

The story is notable for its welter of Mythos deities namechecked in almost a laundry list approach and for Campbell's great dedication to attempting to ape the literary style and affectations of Lovecraft himself.
