Overview[]

Founded in 1990 by editor-in-chief John Scott Tynes under his Pagan Publishing label, the initial run of The Unspeakable Oath lasted from 1990 to 2001, with these issues proclaiming the magazine to be dedicated to Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game. After this it went on hiatus until 2010, when Arc Dream Publishing, a roleplaying games company co-founded by former The Unspeakable Oath contributor Dennis Detwiller, acquired the license from Pagan; after the first Arc Dream issue (#18), it shifted its focus from solely Call of Cthulhu material to all games based on the Cthulhu Mythos.

Over the years The Unspeakable Oath has featured contributions from many famous names in the field of roleplaying games, including Keith Herber (who helped generate interest in the early issues), Scott David Aniolowski, and Daniel Harms among others.
