"The Viking's Doom" is a short Cthulhu Mythos story by Canadian author Troy Young. It is the fifth episode of Book 2 in the Nyarlathotep Cycle.
Synopsis[]
Agent Malcolm Mayweather is assigned to assist Dr. Ottar Berg, a researcher for the Norwegian counterpart to the Department of Extraordinary Phenomena, on an archaeological expedition to locate an ancient Viking settlements on the east coast of Canada. The artefact they are searching for is believed to be capable of opening a gateway to the Dreamlands.
However, the doctor has been corrupted by the Outer God Nyarlathotep and attempts to sacrifice Mayweather once he has retrieved the artefact. Mayweather is able to fend Berg off and kill him, but loses an arm in the process.
