The Whisperer in Darkness is a 2011 film adaptation of the 1931 H. P. Lovecraft short story of the same name, created by the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society. The Society aims to produce adaptations of Lovecraft's work that appear to have been made when the stories were published; according to the Society's website, Whisperer is meant to evoke "the classic horror films of the 1930s like Dracula, Frankenstein and King Kong."[1]
The film was directed by Sean Branney, from a screenplay by Branney and Andrew Leman. It stars Matt Foyer as Albert Wilmarth, Barry Lynch as Henry Akeley, and Autumn Wendel as Hannah Masterson, the daughter of a cultist. The real-life paranormal investigator Charles Fort appears as a character played by Leman.
Scenes set at Miskatonic University were shot at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts.
