"The White Elephant" is a poem written by H. P. Lovecraft and R. H. Barlow on 23 May 1934. It was published for the first time in the 1990 Lovecraft collection The Fantastic Poetry.
Synopsis[]
The poem describes a mysterious man or entity who rose from "primal chaos" and commanded "lesser ghouls" to perform rites for him. They bred poisonous flowers and trees, and created a "white beast" made from "fungous dust", which pagans now pray to.
