"Time Flies" is a short Cthulhu Mythos story by American author Pete Rawlik.
Synopsis[]
A mass migration of Yithians to Earth brings with it a wealth of new scientific knowledge, although it does not go unnoticed by the authorities - who are well aware of the nature of these aliens - that this time they have chosen to inhabit the bodies of the recently deceased.
After a series of catastrophic events signalling the return of the Old Ones and the downfall of humankind, the Yithians reveal that they are simply there as tourists, wishing to have a front-row seat to such an important event. Furthermore, they reveal that once they leave their bodies, a consequence of the process acting upon deceased brains will turn them into ravenous, highly-infectious zombies, although they have made preparations for a select group to survive in pre-prepared defensible locations, allowing the continuance of the human race after a fashion.
