𝓦𝐓 "Ubbo-Sathla" is a short story by the late American author and Lovecraft contemporary Clark Ashton Smith. It forms a part of his Hyperborean cycle.
Synopsis[]
A man stumbles across an unusual orb in a small curio stand, recognising it as the crystal of Zon Mezzamalech, a relic of lost Hyperborea. Upon bringing it home, he feels compelled to use it, and finds that it can transport him back in time. Over the coming days he travels farther and farther back, his consciousness merging with that of the sorcerer Zon Mezzamalech, and reaching the source of all life on Earth: the entity known as Ubbo-Sathla. There, his shattered mind and metamorphosed body settles down amongst the other amoeboid creatures excreted by the monster.
