🔀 For the city in the Dreamlands, see Ulthar

This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly. Ulthar (also known as Ultharathotep) is a fictional deity from the expanded Cthulhu Mythos. The character was first mentioned in Fred Pelton's occult text "The Sussex Manuscript".

Description[]

Ulthar is the son of Sothoth and an Elder God who was sent to Earth, in order to keep watch over the Great Old Ones. Every one thousand years, the rulers and priests of all the empires on Earth come together to visit the high temple located in the pre-human city of N'gah-Kthun, conducting a ritual that summons an avatar of Ulthar, known as Ultharathotep. (EXP: "The Sussex Manuscript")

In Other Media[]

  • D.Y.N. Freaks: After awakening her Azathoth's power, Azana Hatsumi temporarily transforms Narukami Chikage into Ultharathotep, in order to finally defeat Sphinx. It should be noted that Narukami did not truly become Ultharathotep, only taking the name and form of the deity, due to all the Elder Gods being defeated by Demonbane the Vortex Blaster. In DYN Memo, a list of supplementary materials for the manga written by Jin Haganeya, Ultharathotep was described to be the Favored One of Sothoth, who is also known as Yog-Sothoth; however, this is in contrast to Pelton's original depiction, where Sothoth was meant to be a different entity.
