🐙 The Vorlons are a Lovecraftian-like alien race in the fictional universe of the Babylon 5 live-action television series.

Background[]

The Vorlons are an ancient race, one of the First Ones, and have been around for over a billion years old. It's a race of partly translucent, bioluminescent radially symmetrical multi-tentacled creatures. Which has been manipulating the development of many of the younger races, appearing to them as divine beings. Through an actively projected telepathic image, any individual who descends from one of those races and sees a Vorlon outside of a container suit, perceives the Vorlon(s) as a divine being of their mythology and/or history.

Vorlons are connected to each other telepathically and have a telepathic connection to their own vessels. Their strongest influence on the minds of younger races is when the individual's mind is in an altered state, such as when exhausted or while sleeping. Vorlons also possess telekinetic powers, including flight. Like the Shadows, they too use organic technology, such as their sentient squid-like starships. Though unlike the Shadows they don't use sentient lifeforms as parts in their ships. The Vorlons possess miles-long planet killer starships that can shatter worlds with lightning-like streams of particles.

Unlike their long time rivals, the Shadows, the Vorlons believe that the evolution of races reach their fullest potential is via order and discipline. Younger races are to be guided and taught, and they in turn have to obey the Vorlons. Recently they orchestrated the emergence of telepaths among the younger races, to use them as weapons against the Shadows.
