This subject contains information from the Expanded Cthulhu Mythos, and not based on H.P. Lovecraft's works directly.

The little things are important. Grown-ups don't see that.

Wendy Adams, the Urchin, is a fictional character created by Fantasy Flight Games who appears in the expanded Cthulhu Mythos.

History

When Wendy was very young, her Mama used to let her play with her old necklace, a piece of unusual design featuring an eye surrounded by a shiny star. Wendy was always fascinated by this bauble.

However, her childhood happiness ended when they received word that her father had been lost at sea. This caused a change in Wendy's Mama, and she began to scrawl bizarre symbols all over their house in white chalk, and read books with evil-sounding names. Soon, the authorities took notice, and Wendy's Mama was carted off to the asylum, while Wendy was sent to an orphanage, but not before her Mama gave her a parting gift: the necklace with which she had been so besotted as a child.

Spending several years in the orphanage, Wendy became completely disillusioned with the care given her and, deciding that she would be better off on her own, snuck away to live her life on the streets. Times were difficult for a little girl running with a pack of street kids, but somehow she made it work.

One day, Wendy was on the street begging when a stranger whose face she did not see dropped a photograph into her cup. The picture was one of her father, with the words “Soon the Red Tide rises. Stay safe, my little girl” scrawled on the back. What this means, Wendy has no idea, but since then she has spent all of her time not given over to mere survival searching for her missing father, encountering many nightmarish creatures along the way.

Behind the Mythos

Originally created by Fantasy Flight for their Second Edition release of the Arkham Horror board game, Wendy has since appeared in several of their other games - including Eldritch Horror, Mansions of Madness, Arkham Horror: The Card Game, and the Third Edition of Arkham Horror - and has made appearances in several of their novels based on the Mythos. The company also released a pre-painted miniature of the character to replace the cardboard tokens given in their games, but this has since been discontinued.
