The H.P. Lovecraft Wiki

This subject contains information from the "Lovecraft Circle" Myth Cycles, and while guided by HPL are not based on his work alone. Yaddith-Gho is a fictional location created by the late American authors H. P. Lovecraft and Hazel Heald for their 1935 short story "Out of the Aeons."

Overview[]

Yaddith-Gho was a colossal mountain located in the province of K'naa on the now-sunken continent of Mu, formerly located somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Atop the mountain sits a Cyclopean stone fortress built by the "spawn of Yuggoth", while beneath it lies sleeping the Great Old One Ghatanothoa. Around it has sprung a powerful sect of Muvians who both fear and worship the entity. In an attempt to keep Ghatanothoa quiescent, the high priests of this religion annually sacrifice 12 young warriors and 12 young maidens upon their flaming altars, believing that this offering will appease the sleeping monstrosity. (HPL: "Out of the Aeons")

Behind the Mythos[]

Whether the "spawn of Yuggoth" who built the fortress which crowns Yaddith-Gho and left Ghatanothoa sleeping beneath were the Mi-Go or the original Yuggothians remains unknown. However, it would appear more likely that the Mi-Go were the culprits, as there appears to be no evidence that the now-extinct Yuggothians ever visited Earth.
